Locking Monitor pages
Monitor Modes
NetSpy Monitor has two working modes:
"Cashier" and "Administrator". When application is
started it is by default in "Cashier" mode. It means that only
those pages that are made visible by the administrator will be
visible. Switching to the "Administrator" mode enables all
screens as well as unlocks some password protected features such as
deleting the databases and erasing historical records. In the
"Cashier" mode those controls are protected with the
administrative password.
Another feature that makes the two modes different is
ability to use Hidden User Types.
Cashier can only see and use the user types that are not hidden, that is
done to prevent regular employees from being able to create a NetSpy user
with administrative privileges. If you configure some user types to be
hidden, it also makes sense to hide the user types screen to prevent
employees from disabling the "Hidden" attribute.
All of the NetSpy Monitor screens can be hidden from
Cashier if needed. Administrator should decide what is appropriate for regular
employees to see and what is not. Once that decision has been made, administrator
can remove unnecessary screens from the Cashier's view. To do that one
needs to switch to the Administrator mode.
Pressing
button from the main toolbar menu will display the page lock dialog.
Immediately after the installation, all pages of the monitor
are unlocked and there is no administrator password set.
 |
Press
button and set the Administrator password to prevent others from using this dialog.
Now deselect the pages you want to hide and click .
As you check or uncheck buttons, appropriate pages
of NetSpy Monitor will appear or disappear and stay that way after
this dialog is closed.
|
If the administrative password is set, the next time you call
this dialog, all controls except for the password box are going
to appear disabled. Within a few seconds after entering the correct password,
other controls will also become enabled allowing you to do editing, otherwise they will
remain grayed
out.
Disabling screens
Before hiding Monitor screens Administrator should understand the functionality
that will be disabled with every page.
Workstations
should probably never be disabled, its a main page that allows
Cashier to perform all day-to-day tasks such as billing users, managing workstations
and so on
Users - can be hidden
if you are not planning on using the "Calling Card" option or
having pre-paid users.
User Types - is
where payment coefficients, system logon credentials and other
options are defined.
Once configured, this page certainly can be hidden.
Business Objects - contains
price settings for all Business Objects. Advanced cashiers may have access
to this page to add or modify shop items (if you use that) as well as
manage printer monitoring (depending on the type of printer you use it
may be necessary to start monitoring manually).
Reports
And History - is where historical data can be accessed and
analyzed in graphical form. Usually this page should also be hidden
in Cashier mode so that regular employees cannot alter the historical information.
Database
- is only used to maintain the system. It too can be hidden from regular
employees.
Configurations - is
where NetSpy client-side appearance (texts, pictures, login
options, etc) is customized. Once the system is configured, there is no need for
regular employees to see this
page.
